Wild for Wildlife

February 24, 2017

The actor Joaquin Phoenix once stated: “It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal.”

Sick, injured or abandoned wildlife often finds its way to Pet Emergency Center, usually by good Samaritans. This last year alone, there have been coyotes, falcons, several baby deer, owls, opossums, raccoons, a ring-tailed cat, ducks, Canadian geese, squirrels, and a slew of baby songbirds (just to name a few).

When these animals come into the hospital, the staff aids in making them as comfortable as possible by feeding them and keeping them warm and safe until a volunteer from the wildlife rescue center can come and pick them up.

Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, which is a nonprofit organization located in Loomis, and Pet Emergency Center have been working together for quite a few years now, with a mutual goal of reintroducing convalesced wildlife back into their natural surroundings.

Their staff at GCWR (which consists mainly of volunteers) is responsible for the rehabilitation of nearly 2,000 wild animals every year.

Visit Gold Country Wildlife Rescue’s website: https://www.goldcountrywildliferescue.org . On their website, it lists steps and safety measures for not only the wild animal needing assistance, but for you as well. Remember, not only are these animals undomesticated, they’re potentially going to be scared and painful, so their first instinct may be to use their claws and teeth, be careful with them!
